Entry for Laurie R.

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011

To the Wonderful Staff at Ology:

I am writing in response to the request for nominations for the “Total Mom Rejuvenation Contest” seen in the Current. I am nominating my wife, Laurie R. Laurie is the loving mother of 2 beautiful young children, ages 7 and 4, a very caring wife to me and a generous caregiver to her mother who now lives with us in Westfield.

Due to a very hectic schedule and a vast geographic area I cover for my company, Laurie is forced to deal with every daily dilemma that occurs in running a household and raising a family by herself. In addition to working full-time as a teacher, she also manages to run the kids to the doctor, sporting events and church activities. When I am away she has to have the kids ready, drop them off at daycare by 7:00am, work till 3:00pm, run as many errands as possible, pick the kids up by 4:00pm, dinner at 6:00 followed by homework and bath time.

Laurie’s father passed away in January and her mother moved in with our family in February, adding to her list of responsibilities.

I try to find ways to relieve her stress and provide time for relaxation, but it seems there is always something “else” we have to do.  My wife does an excellent job juggling all of her responsibilities and somehow has managed to stay sane over the years.

Entry for DOLLIE S.

Tuesday, April 26th, 2011
I want to nominate my mother Dollie.
Her whole life,  she has always taken care of my sister and I, while working 6 days a week. And then I had children of my own- and she has helped me take care of them for the last  18 years.
Without her, I can’t imagine where we would be. I would love to see her have a makeover that she so deserves.

  1. Dollie is a wonderful person! She gives herself 100% of the time! One Great Lady! Takes care of her family, both young and old! Thank you for giving us a chance to give back to her! Pauline McDaniel

  2. Jody DeBord-Young says:

I love Dollie just as my own mommy – Dollie helped to take care of me when I was younger after my parents got divorced and my mom was struggling. I will forever be thankful for Dollie…………..love you

  3. Kelley says:

Dollie is so deserving of a makeover she always puts herself last and is so deserving of a makeover.

  4. Lisa Newkirk says:

I think Dollie would be a perfect candidate for this makeover. I have known her for a long time. She is such a great mother/grandmother. Always putting her family before herself. She most def deserves this makeover!!

  5. Moe says:

After reading these comments and Lola’s submission, I think Dollie would look at this and think she would not deserve it. She takes care of her kids, her husband, her family, her friends, her home, her business that she and her husband own, etc. etc. It is what she does, she doesn’t know any other way, so anyone saying she deserves something for all of her love/work – she would just say it is her life.
So on that note – she deserves the world and if a makeover is included in that, good for her.

  6. Maryann Gaines says:

Dollie is the epitome of the perfect Mom! She is always serving others and never takes the time for herself. Dollie deserves this make-over more than any Mom in Indy!

  7. Alexis says:

Dollie is a great lady who is so much fun and deserves a makeover!

  8. Kim White says:

I could not think of any other mom (besides my own) who deserves this. I have been a family friend for over 15 years and have watched her give and give to help her children. She never thinks selfishly and is a beautiful person on the inside and derserves to be even more beautiful on the outside. I LOVE YOU DOLLY SETTLE!!!!!

  9. Chris says:

Dollie is someone you love to meet and once you do you hope she becomes a part of your life. Pick Dollie and you to may meet this wonderful Lady! You may be able to do a makeover on the outside but there is no making over Dollie from the Inside! She has that. A Big Heart.

  10. Colleen Mitchell says:

Give this lady a makeover! She truly deserves it! We love her!

  11. Cindi says:

Give Dollie a makeover!! She so deserves it. Everyone else has kinda covered the “why’s”, so just do it!

  12. Katie says:

I have never meet Dolly but heard some amazing stories. I know she is a hard worker and an even better mother! Good luck Dollie!

  13. lauren says:

i think dollie [my grandma] deserves this more than any person i know ! she is always there fior her family and friends. she’s the best grandmother that anyone could ever have ! i hope you get it! loveee youu

  14. Beth says:

Dolly is a hard working women who LOVES her family. She deserves to have some pampering!

  15. Lola says:

Mom has ALWAYS put her family and friends first and herself last. She is truly one of the most loving and caring people that I have ever seen. She has stood by me through the good and bad and has never judged me for any decisions I have made. She would help a complete stranger if they needed it. I haven’t met one person in my life with a heart like my mother. I truly am blessed to be her daughter. Love you Mom!!

  16. Leslie says:

I think this would be AMAZING for my mom Dollie Settle!! Shes a very loving person! She’s has been always there 100% for her family and friends. She is my mother and my best friend. She is beautiful inside and out no doubt but I think this would make her feel soo much better about herself. Love you momma : )

  17. Ashley says:

Dollie is not my biological mom but she is my 2nd mommy. She would do anything for me and Im not even her own daughter. She never does anything for herself because she always puts others first. I think that this would be great for Dollie. She deserves something that is all for her!! I love you Dollie Sue Settle!

  18. Karisa says:

Lola and Leslie are so lucky to have Dollie as a mom. She is so sweet and caring. She always has her girls and grandkids best interest at heart. Dollie is a beautiful woman but needs to be pampered by this makeover! No better candidate for this makeover!!! Happy Mothers Day Dollie!!!

  19. ANGEL says:

I THINK IF ANYONE DESERVES TO WIN THIS CONTEST DOLLIE DOES. SHE IS A VERY SPECIAL PERSON WITH A LOT OF LOVE IN HER HEART! SHE DESERVES TO GET SOMETHING FOR HERSELF ALWAYS HELPING OTHERS.
WHAT A MOTHERS DAY GIFT THAT WOULD BE!

  20. Chris Collins says:

I’ve met Dolly a couple times and she has always been very sweet and gracious to me. I am a friend of her daughter Lola, but feel I am also her friend as well. I hope that she gets to do this because she is very deserving and would never do it for herself. Dolly, I hope you have a great Mother’s Day! You are truly a great lady.

  21. Lacey says:

It is obvious based on everyones responses that no one deserves this more than Dollie! I agree 100 percent. She takes wonderful care of her family. She has a great heart and an even greater personality to match. Love you Dollie Sue!

  22. Jaycee says:

I vote Dollie ALL THE WAYY!!! we love you :)

  23. DONNA HARRISON says:

Dollie is my little sister. She is a loving and kind person and a wonderful Mother and friend and an even better Sister. We have a wonderful mother that taught us well how to be a good Mom. Dollie lives her life to take care of others and she so deserves to be taken care of and pampered. She probably doesn’t think that because she is also humble. I hope that you can see from the comments that she has touched many lives. Just to testify to her kindness. We were at a family birthday party and a young mother was there who was very stressed because her baby was not feeling well and she wasn’t sure what to do. Everyone offered advise but as the young woman left the party I saw my sister follow her out and hand her some money to go to the pharmacy and get some medicine for her baby. She does acts of kindness like this all the time. I love her and hope that she can have a chance to be treated special because she truly is special.

  24. Janet G. says:

I have never had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Dollie, but I have heard wonderful things about her.
I know she has raised a wonderful daughter(s) who wants nothing but the best for her mother! I too hope she wins this make over…she certainly deserves it!

  25. Teresa S. says:

    Very deserving.

  26. Tammy May says:

Dollie is a very sweet person. You will not find anyone with a bigger heart!!!! She will help anyone that needs it! No question ask!!! She is my sister in law. But, I feel like she is my sister! If anyone deserves a makeover it’s Dollie!!! We all love her she is the best!!!

Entry for: LINDA Q.

Tuesday, April 26th, 2011

I 110% believe my mom deserves to win the Total Mom Rejuvenation contest for many reasons.  My mom was a young mom that had two children by the age of 23.  She gave up her younger years and started a family.  Since I can remember,  my mom has worked Full-time and overtime for the past 25 years. As a child,  anything I needed help with she was there to help me.  She would work a 8-12 hour day, to come home get dinner ready, help me with my homework take us to practices, softball games, tennis matches whatever.  She was always on the run.

I don’t ever remember her ever taking time out for herself.  It was always about us kids, making sure she gave us every opportunity she could.  If I needed a new tennis racket or wanted to go to tennis camp and we couldn’t afford it, she would pick up extra days at work or work overtime to make it happen.  I just remember her always doing whatever she could to make my childhood a good one.

My mom works as a letter carrier for the USPS.  She is out in the elements on a daily basis.  When a lot of other professions take the day off because of the “snowpocalypse” she is out there making sure the mail gets to your door.  Whether its raining cats and dogs, is 95 degrees and humid or snowy/icy outside she is out in the elements making sure everyone gets their favorite magazine or even for some that social security check.  I remember her coming home after a long day when it was zero degrees and not even complaining about it.  She would come home and make sure everyone else was OK before herself.  I truly believe she deserves this rejuvenation.  She has worked hard all 51 years of her life and I believe she would be a very grateful recipient of the rejuvenation.

ENTRY for ANNE C.

Monday, April 25th, 2011

I wish to tell you about my daughter, Anne C.  She is caring, helpful and has a heart of gold.

In her life, she has had many ups and downs.  Her four plus ‘ups’ are her three boys, her daughter, and her husband.  In addition to the straight A’s the boys have, they are involved in many traveling sports, baseball, basketball, swimming, etc.  With all of this, she has gone back to college to become a registered nurse  and is making good grades.

She has been the rock of her house for the last few years since her husband was called up by the military for tours in Afganistan and Iraq.  He has also been called out of the state seeking work in his other career as an electrical contractor as there are few jobs available in Indiana.  This has gone on for many, many months.

She was the one who finished the house they started building during the first military tour.  This was her down time when he was gone.

Now things are looking up.  He has found a job in southern Indiana which will require a household move in the future, as well as completing her RN schooling.

Anne is passionate at what she does, and will help anyone at any time, and never says no to anyone in need!

Super Mom Specials 2011

Monday, April 25th, 2011

Great specials for Mom’s Day!

ENTRY FOR: HEIDI M.

Monday, April 4th, 2011

I want to nominate my daughter Heidi m.   She is the mother of a beautiful 13 year old National Honor Society daughter and a beautiful 24 year old daughter, and mother to a wonderful grandson.Heidi works four 10 hr days. She has worked for the same childcare company  for almost 20 years. She took this field so she could always be around her daughters. She is extremely devoted to her job, never says no, will do anything and everything that is needed. I work with her just one day a week and her dedication amazes me. On her one week day she is off she keeps her grandson. You could say to help his parents financially, but that would be an excuse. Heidi has been through her share of trials and tribulations through the years, surgeries, illnesses,  including losing her first grandchild at birth. But she picks up her boot straps, pulls her family’s boot straps up and keeps going.

She works so hard, that having a day to be pampered would be something she never dreamed of having time to do!

She would be appreciative for many years to come for this great opportunity.

ENTRY FOR: APRIL M.

Monday, April 4th, 2011

I’m writing to enter my daughter, April M.. She and husband are parents to 7 amazing children from 20 months to almost 18 years old.  April home schools her children and each are remarkable in all kinds of ways.

April just had her 3rd miscarriage, and most people would say not a big deal since she has been blessed with 7 children. But it does effect her. These were children that God blessed her with for a very short time, and even though she knows they are in HIS hands, she still misses them.
Over year ago, one of her children was diagnosed with Autism. She has studied everything she cold get her hands on to educate her and our family on this, worked with several doctors, and this child has bloomed so much! A year ago this child  would not let me touch him, now when I come he runs to me, throws his arms in the air yelling Grandma and kisses me. April has made this happen with her determination, love of her family, and the devotion of her husband who works close to 60 hours a week. If Dads cold be nominated, he would be right on the list also!!!

If a mother could use a special spa day, April is definitely one of them!!!

Entry for RACHEL C.

Monday, April 4th, 2011

My daughter, Rachel, has been a mom since September 6, 2010.  She and Nick were really ready to be parents.  Even though this doesn’t seem like a long time, she has been through some difficulties.

She developed severe pre-eclampsia and suddenly was hospitalized for 4 days.  This hospitalization was like a roller coaster ride as she would get  better to the point of discharge and then relapse.  On the fourth day, they had to perform a C-section to relieve her symptoms.  She was just starting her 32nd week, so her son had to be in the N.I.C.U. for eight weeks.  He has had to see a few specialists, but is doing fine now.

She works on a busy unit as a nurse, and is devoted to her patients as well as their family members.  Even with this high-stress job, she has been working on an advanced degree and will graduate in May.

She has been juggling too many roles for such a young Mom.  She is so devoted to her little boy; it is touching to see them together.  Winning the Total Mom Rejuvenation Contest would be such a great reward for surviving all of the challenges she has faced this year!

ENTRY for Debbie M.

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

I feel that my Mom has long deserved to be pampered and taken care of, this has been for years coming. I am 33 years old. I was born premature with a heart problem, I was born at 6 months and was a preemie. My parents (both of them) were there with me and was by my side, night and every day for a very long time until, I was released from the hospital.

I had lots of restrictions growing up as a kid. I couldn’t do as most other kids. My Mom was always there for me, no matter what. I went in for open heart surgery at Riley Hospital when I was 8 years old. She was there the whole time, night and day, good and bad. She washed my hair for me, got me anything I needed.  I was in the hospital close to a week, came home and she was there through the recuperating process.

I am 33 now and still have a very close relationship with both of my parents, My Mom is my inspiration and if I end up being just as great and caring as her, I will have made a very great accomplishment  in my life. As she grows older, I will be there throught thick and then. I won’t ever leave her side because she never left mine.

Entry for Judy

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

My mother deserves to win because she is the greatest mom a person could ask for.  My mother is 62 years old and has always been there for me.

She has been through so much in her life, she has struggled to take care of her 3 daughters and her 2 grandchildren but she has always found a wayto manage.  My mother and father divorced right after I graduated from high school, she left everything she owned besides her truck, lived in a women’s abuse shelter and worked like crazy to give herself and me a better life.

As a child she worked two jobs to take care of us, she drove me to my friends, to the skating rink, to the pool.  I became pregnant at age 17,so that was one more mouth she was trying to figure out how she was going to take care of, and in an abusive situation myself.  She never scolded me about the wrongs in my life, she tried to talk me through them and realized I had to learn for myself.  She was there to support me through it all and I finally managed to break free. She always gave me encouraging words, and cards, and the pick-me-ups a teenager needed from a mother.

I had a high risk pregnancy because I was so sick and my body was trying to abort the pregnancy, I gave birth to a micro-preemie that is now 15.  My mother was in the delivery room with me when I gave birth and has helped me raise my daughter to become the teenager that she is today.  My mom has had to work multiple jobs to get by and now works overnight at a bakery.  She has never really had the chance to enjoy herself or relax and feel good about who she is.  She has always put others before her, she has taken care of others needs first. She makes sure she attends all functions for her grandchildren, even if she is worn out.  She has never been able to go out and buy nice clothes, get a massage, get a makeover or anything for herself because she is always taking care of others.

She deserves this chance.  She deserves an opportunity to feel good about herself, a chance to relax and time for herself.  My mother is my best friend, but being her daughter she doesn’t get how beautiful a person she is outside as she is inside.  I tell her but once again, I am her daughter and she thinks it is all said out of love.  She does not feel attractive anymore because her hair is thinning, her weight, her age, we are big boned in our family so we don’t have that small and petite look, and people often call her sir, yes, people call her sir, and it hurts her.

I want my mom to have a chance to know how wonderful, how beautiful, and how caring she is and that she is loved.  I am asking for your help to give her this, she is the greatest friend, a great person and most of all the best Mom.  She has taught me how to love others, love myself and at a young, teenage age, how to become a mom when times were scary and tough. I love you Mom!!!  thank you for your time.

She always helps me out giving me food and clothing when it is needed. She also never goes out that much, she helps watch my baby cousin Alex. She also works at about 3:00 in the morning and then comes home about 11:00 in the morning, earning money to support herself,me,my cousin, and her mother. My grandmother has done so much for me, and my family, she is the best grandmother a grandaughter could ask for. ok so she is one of the best people i know she drives me everywhere, everyday. she takes me to my friends the doctor you name it, and although she cannot afford things she herself needs she always seems to be able to get us our christmas presents, birthday and just a random gift and she never asks us to do anything in return, except to be quite while she sleeps ^^ i think this would be great for her she neeeds so time to relax and let someone else take care of her for a minute. she works all of the time, she gets up at two thirty am to work in a bakery which she loves but would rather be doing somthing else that is easier on her body, she then comes home at noon to nap for maybe an hour if she can she then leaves to get us everyday from school or clubs then she takes not only us home but also our friends and the takes us to the store or our homes aftter that if shes home early enough she will help cook with her mom and sister and then go to bed just to do it all over again and in the mix of all of that she will babysit other cousins let our pets out if we are away from home ect. I love my Nana with all of my heart and she deserves this treatment more than anyone else i know.

My mom deserves to win a spa treatment. From the time she became pregnant with me, she has strived to give me the best life she can. She made sure that my sisters and I experienced life. She worked two jobs to provide for our family, and still made time to spend with us. When things get tough, she just got tougher. Nothing will keep her down!
My mom is supportive of our family, even when we make the wrong decisions in life. When we have our own difficulties, she’s right there to be a shoulder to cry on, or hold our hand, or just to listen. Mom may offer her opinion, and doesn’t get offended if we don’t listen. And when it becomes apparent that we should have listened, she seldom says I told you so.
My mom has helped me, my sisters, and our children more than anyone knows. She helps by picking the kids up from school, taking them to doctors appointments, or taking organ lessons with her granddaughter.

Mom gives and gives and seldom asks anything for herself. This would be an awesome surprise for her. Please vote for my mom, Judy!

  48. Traci says:

I Vote for Judy! GOD Bless!
